Brief Bio

I am Dr. Richard Vasques, an Assistant Professor in the Nuclear Engineering Graduate Program within the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at The Ohio State University (OSU). Since joining OSU in 2017, I have been dedicated to advancing research and education in nuclear science and engineering.
Prior to my tenure at OSU, I served as a Project Scientist at the University of California, Berkeley, focusing on innovative nuclear research. My international academic journey also includes roles as a Research Fellow at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in Brazil and RWTH Aachen University in Germany. Beyond academia, I held positions at Fundação Getúlio Vargas and McKinsey & Company, where I gained valuable insights into industry practices and strategic problem-solving.
I earned my Ph.D. in Applied & Interdisciplinary Mathematics from the University of Michigan, specializing in Nuclear Engineering. My M.S. and B.S. degrees in Applied Mathematics were awarded by UFRGS, where my academic foundations were shaped.
My academic genealogy includes ancestors such as Galileo, Newton, Stokes, Fourier, Lagrange, Poisson... I invite you to take a look and check out all the cool names. You can also find a little more about me in the following pieces:
